Melted water from the indland ice
It's very impressive when you see the ice for the first time!! It just rises as an enormous ice block.
We are closing in on Russell's Glacier after three ours walking in sand and stones. When we get closer to the glacier, the stones get bigger and bigger. The river wild (!?!) is running very fast at this point, and only leaves the largest stones. Further down the river, smaller stones are depositing.
We are about one kilometre from the ice at this point.
