King Taejong built the Changdokkung Palace in 1405.
This is Injongon (hall) inside Changdokkung Palace. King Taejong built the Palace in 1405. Like most of the Palaces, temples and other great buildings in Korea, it has been burned to the ground during the Japanese invasion in 1592.
Beginning with King Kwanghaegun, who mowed the seat of government here in 1615, kings ruled the country from this Palace for about 300 years.
The King gave audience to his subjects and received foreign envoys here. Parties and Royal banquets were also held in the outer Palace. The stone tablets in front of the building, indicate where each rank of the official should stand for the formal ceremonies.
