Uspensky Cathedral.
Uspensky Cathedral, built 1868. Orthodox Christian Cathedral.
On top of a small hill close to the main centre and waterfront, rises this beautiful church.
Russia's historic influence in the region is demonstrated through this building. The russian architect Aleksei Gornostaev builds the Uspensky Cathedral in the Greek Orthodox tradition. Unlike western churches which usually feature drag grey or white façades, it is not uncommon for Russian churches to be blazing red, with gold or blue accents. In this case, a gold onion dome, the very icon of Russian churches around the world, fits the bill.
